The bed was very comfortable, the breakfast scones very good along with the delicious fruit.We had no issue with noise: however, we stayed Tues. through Thursday and we ran both the window fan and the floor fan because it was rather warm weather.We appreciated the afternoon lemonade and cookies. We were given great information about things to see on the island, and good advice about being at the ferry dock an hour before loading! We will recommend staying here to all our friends. Lucky me. The Bird Rock staff was wonderful, our San Juan room was beautiful, comfortable, and had a lovely view of the water. We were able to walk all over town, and as long as you wore the earplugs, the noise wasn't a problem. I would absolutley reccommend the Bird Rock, and truly hope I get the opportunity to stay there again. We were there to celebrate my husband's 50th birthday. The bed was very comfortable, the bathroom spacious and the kitchen well equipped. Where we had issues were: there was no place to eat - a chair and a bed only with no table or seating for two. The major issue, however, was the noise. Friday night was bad but if used earplugs could get by. On Saturday it was awful with the live band, shouting and hollering until 2:00 preventing any sleep - even with earplugs. For the price that we paid for the two nights - approximately $500 - I do not find this acceptable and would not have chosen to stay at the hotel had I know this. I'm so sorry you had a sleepless night and were in general somewhat unsatisfied. I was not aware of the jets not working in your room. Would you be so kind to let us know which room you stayed in (we had a couple of Jeff's this weekend:) We will have that fixed as soon as possible. It made me sad to hear you didn't like our breakfast. It is continental, yes, but we usually impress our guests with our homemade scones, fresh local fruit platters and our locally sourced dairy products, grown without harmful pesticides and growth hormones. What would you have liked to see which we didn't provide? On a small island we are maybe a little more aware of issues like waste, water etc. So we don't like the idea of providing plastic water bottles in the guest fridges. But we have filtered water (even though our tap water is fine)available in the lobby, carafes available upon request. I will make sure our staff let's everybody know this in the future. Thank you for pointing this out. Along the same lines: everything on this island is more expensive than on the mainland, labor, utilities, garbage, repairs of any kind. Everything, from pillow to nail to most food, needs to be shipped or flown over. Those expenses make our rooms a little more expensive than something equivalent on the mainland. The noise, oh Jeff and Chiane, I can't tell you what all we have tried to get this issue resolved. As I wrote in our guest directories, we have begged, threatened and screamed. We are currently working on getting a noise ordinance put in place, which the previous town council didn't approve. We try to be very up front about the issue, so when it is a holiday weekend our guests aren't disappointed. Having said all that, we don't like you feeling cheated, unhappy and unrelaxed. What can we do to make it up to you?
