Hi Jeff and Chiane,
Thank you so much for taking the time to let us know about your stay.

On our website we have to approve all comments to avoid spam. I just got around to going through this weekend's comments. Please be assured we want to know what you have to say, good and bad. Only through constructive criticism like yours can we learn in which areas we are lacking, and make our hotel a better place.

I'm so sorry you had a sleepless night and were in general somewhat unsatisfied.

I was not aware of the jets not working in your room. Would you be so kind to let us know which room you stayed in (we had a couple of Jeff's this weekend:) We will have that fixed as soon as possible.

It made me sad to hear you didn't like our breakfast. It is continental, yes, but we usually impress our guests with our homemade scones, fresh local fruit platters and our locally sourced dairy products, grown without harmful pesticides and growth hormones. What would you have liked to see which we didn't provide?

On a small island we are maybe a little more aware of issues like waste, water etc. So we don't like the idea of providing plastic water bottles in the guest fridges. But we have filtered water (even though our tap water is fine)available in the lobby, carafes available upon request. I will make sure our staff let's everybody know this in the future. Thank you for pointing this out.

Along the same lines: everything on this island is more expensive than on the mainland, labor, utilities, garbage, repairs of any kind. Everything, from pillow to nail to most food, needs to be shipped or flown over. Those expenses make our rooms a little more expensive than something equivalent on the mainland.

The noise, oh Jeff and Chiane, I can't tell you what all we have tried to get this issue resolved. As I wrote in our guest directories, we have begged, threatened and screamed. We are currently working on getting a noise ordinance put in place, which the previous town council didn't approve. We try to be very up front about the issue, so when it is a holiday weekend our guests aren't disappointed.

Having said all that, we don't like you feeling cheated, unhappy and unrelaxed. What can we do to make it up to you? Please email me at steffi@earthboxmotel.com and we'll figure something out (I worked this weekend and will have a couple of days off, so you will hear from me on Thursday).

Again, thank you for your input. We hope you got a chance to enjoy our island and our town.

Sincerely,
Steffi Wehner

Also to our previous comment i thought that the shower head could have been alot better than having a manual valve to turn it on on the actual shower head and i thought the fridge cuold have been stocked with some free water or something at least.

we stayed in the bird rock hotel on july 3rd 2010 which was yesterday and for almost $300 dollars we thought that the hotel could have worked better half the jets didnt work and the noise was horrible we dont complain about anything usually but nobody should have to pay 300 dollars tobe awakened by the bar 10 steps away from the hotel room window at 2 am when everyone leaves the bar earplugs or not it doesnt justify the price for one night in this room, also the free breakfast was only some hard boiled eggs and some cereal not what we were expecting our stay overal was fine but the noise was justified for the price.

We stayed there June 21 and 22nd , 2010. We had the Bainbridge suite. 2 nice bedrooms, separate from each other and they share one nice bathroom. The beds slept great and loved the theme of clean white covers and pillows. The Huge bath tube was awesome with 2 shower heads. Loved that!! Lots of hot water for that tub too. Nice breakfast and bikes to ride to get exercise or to just cruise around the town. Friendly staff and was very helpful. The noise was not bad, but do wear your ear plugs or you will be awakened about 5 am while the grocery store next door unloads there truck, but I wear ear plugs anyway and that was not a problem for me. I will stay there again next visit to Friday Harbor. THanks for all that was done to help our stay even better.

The day before our vacation started, I injured my back at work. Walking was almost impossible. On arrival to Bird Rock Hotel we learned that stairs were the only way to our third floor room. After we got to our room, I learned that the restrooms were down on the second floor. Our vacation seemed to be becoming a nightmare. After we settled into our room, I am pleased to tell you that the nightmare was over. That was the best night sleep I have ever had in a hotel bed. My back even felt a little better when we got up. Still hurting some, we went down to a nice continental breakfast. When the hotel staff learned of my problem, they insisted on moving us to a ground floor room right away. I will tell you that I have never stayed at a hotel that cared so much about their guests. What started out a nightmare, turned into a fantastic experience. Thanks to the wonderful, caring staff at Bird Rock Hotel. We can't wait to return.

I stayed in the Orcas room and found it great. Sucks being on a hilly street (added car noise) but I was ready for that and it didn't bother me too much. I onced lived on a street with a similar incline. I must say that after a day of touring the island it was great to come back to a room with an HDTV including HD programming. Not many hotels/inns include the HD programming with their flatscreens. Big plus since it was NCAA Tournament weekend! Since this was March, the room temp was always comfortable but I did wonder how that room might heat up in the summer. Didn't notice any air conditioning other than a ceiling fan. The bed was super comfortable. The only warning about the hotel area I would give to other travelers is watch the ferry landing times and realize the traffic in the immediate area multiplies quickly when the ferry unloads. The staff you have is great, helpful and the local knowledge can't be beat. Thanks for the nice stay.

Hi guys, I just surfed over here after recommending your hotel to someone. I realized I'd never given you some written kudos, so here you go! WOW, what a lovely space you have there. Such a restive, soothing atmosphere you've created... (And the scones! The cookies! OMG!!) Our hostess was right on target with recommendations for day trips, meals and massages. I felt so welcomed and at home there that when we checked out I felt like my husband and I hade made a bunch of good friends. It was a trip to remember, and I know we'll return soon!
