room service by san juan island’s multi-ethnic backdoor kitchen
Friday, May 9th, 2008it’s great to get excellent food delivered right to your room, and that’s really the inspiration behind our room service. i’d be doing you a disservice, though, if i didn’t mention that arriving at backdoor kitchen is a dining experience you’ll cherish forever. just a few blocks from bird rock hotel, backdoor kitchen is tucked among the plants and landscaping of friday harbor’s green man nursery, and you wouldn’t find it without directions. still, backdoor kitchen has easily risen to become san juan island‘s most acclaimed restaurant and bar by providing consistently excellent…everything. dinners are available for delivery to your door during their normal hours of operation, which vary seasonally. visit the backdoor kitchen website for hours and menus.

Monday, April 14th, 2008bird rock hotel of friday harbor opens for business on friday, april 18th, bringing a new standard of excellence to san juan island lodging. the reservation lines are already open, and we are excited to welcome our first guests. please join us for a public open house on wednesday, may 28th, from 3-7pm for music, snacks and room tours hosted by owners laura and adam saccio. dream, sleep, play, wander, discover…evolve.

Friday, April 4th, 2008that’s a favorite saying of my friends aren and sarah rane, who run a fantastic whitewater kayak school and lodge on the rios azul and futaleufu in chilean patagonia. it comes to mind often as i watch the incredible san juan island crew we have buttoning up the last details on the massive bird rock hotel overhaul. we are in the final days before opening on april 18, and the team is really doing a great job. carpet and flooring is now nearly done. painting is nearly done. we took delivery of nearly all the furniture last tuesday. we are within days, finally, of moving everything into it’s final place and taking some long-awaited room photos for the website. we open for visitors on april 18, and we’ll be having a public open house late may. stay tuned. lots happening….
hdtv and fair trade linens
Sunday, March 16th, 2008big week for the crew buttoning up bird rock renovations. the flat panel satellite hdtvs are in and being installed, tile work is complete and our man in india got the new quilt machine to produce the organic fair-trade linens that will adorn the beds. the place is a busy hive of activity and getting very, very close. we’ll post some pictures once the flooring is in, which is just a matter of weeks now. stay tuned….

Monday, February 25th, 2008Beginning April 18th you’ll be able to experience San Juan Island’s lodging revolution with the grand opening of Bird Rock Hotel in Friday Harbor.
