Residents of other islands in the San Juan Islands archipelago call Friday Harbor lovingly and with a little wink, “sin city”. You might think: nights lit like daylight while people dance half naked in the street and exclamations of the “what happens here stays here” kind. Rest assured, it simply refers to the fact that we have more than one bar.
Beautiful, quaint Friday Harbor is the only incorporated town in the San Juan Islands. We are the county seat for San Juan County. The Washington State Ferry lands right in downtown, only two blocks from the Bird Rock Hotel, making bringing a car optional.
Besides whale watch tour operators, ice cream shops, some of the finest restaurants in the world, renowned museums and galleries, cute boutiques and markets, Friday Harbor offers some fun places to hang, play, dance and snack when everybody else has closed shop for the day. Here are three favorite places where you’ll find us having a bite to eat after closing the Bird Rock Hotel for the night, all within walking distance.
