8 Ways to Taste San Juan Island
Whether you are exploring the isle in search of unique, island flavors or are looking for the perfect souvenir, San Juan Island's wine-makers and bakers, farmers and foragers, fisherfolk and cheesemakers have you covered. Come indulge all your senses on San Juan Island.
Oysters from Westcott Bay Shellfish Farm
Treat yourself to Saturday lunch at this gorgeous, working seafood farm. Have freshly shucked oysters, clam chowder, steamed mussels with island made breads, cheeses and wine while watching Blue Herons fish in the serene bay. Consider bringing some shellfish home. Westcott's shellfish is so fresh, it keeps for up to six days when properly cooled.
Pommeau from San Juan Distillery
I cherish San Juan Distillery’s Pommeau - apple port made from their delicious cider - as a dessert wine for a special occasion. Their Gins, Brandies and Liquors are to die for as well.
Come to a Saturday distillery and cider tasting and stock up on your favorites. They also offer direct shipping to Washington State residents. The Distillery and Cidery are open for tastings, tours and retail sales every Saturday from 1:00pm to 4:00pm.
San Juan Blend from San Juan Sea Salt
My husband puts that on everything. San Juan Sea Salt has a cute store next to the Farmers Market with all their island-made salt blends, the world's best cookies and other food-lovers' delights.
Siegerrebe from San Juan Vineyard
This island grown dry white is one of my favorites and last Summer I suddenly couldn’t live without it. So I ordered myself a case. San Juan Vineyard’s lovely tasting room is open daily and offers live music on Saturday nights in Summer.
Canned Tuna from High Seas Tuna
“Really, canned tuna?” You might say. Their young, surface and troll caught tuna is naturally low on mercury. It is tender and juicy. We don’t eat any other canned tuna anymore. Available online or at the San Juan Island Saturday Farmer’s Market.
Multi-Grain Bread from San Juan Bakery
Get it while it's still warm for your beach picnic. San Juan Bakery also offers pizza by the slice, sandwiches and the best cakes and pies.
Quarry No. 9 Pale Ale from San Juan Brewing Co
My husband loves the crisp ales and whimsical beer names of San Juan Brewing. We were delighted to find their brews at Total Wine and other beer specialty stores. However, there is nothing like having lunch or dinner right there. Open daily for lunch and dinner. Free live music on Summer weekends.
Cherry Fig Leaf Jam from Girl Meets Dirt
Girl Meets Dirt make heritage preserves the old fashioned way with local and organic island fruit. Pair the Cherry Fig Leaf with a brie for a heavenly appetizer. Available online or at the San Juan Island Saturday Farmer’s Market
